ABOUT LEIGH

Leigh Bauer is a ceramic artist based in St. Paul, Minnesota, whose journey with clay began in high school art class. After graduating in 2015, Leigh became a studio member at the Plains Art Museum in Fargo, ND, where she grew up and briefly attended Minnesota State Community and Technical College in Moorhead. Unsure of a career path, Leigh left school and moved to St. Paul, MN in 2018.

Eventually, she found her way back to clay in 2024 at Great River Gallery in St. Paul. What began as a return to a beloved medium quickly grew into a deeper commitment: Leigh became the studio technician, working alongside owner Jason Kaping. That same year, Leigh also began teaching through the Northern Clay Center’s outreach program, bringing the joy of ceramics to elementary schools and senior living communities throughout the Twin Cities.

Leigh primarily works with porcelain and B clay as it offers a smooth, clean surface for detailed design, which complements her focus on functional pottery. While utility is central to their work, Leigh also explores sculptural forms and hopes to expand further into sculpture in the future.

With a playful and approachable style, Leigh creates work that invites joy and curiosity. Their goal is simple: to make people smile and remember that art—and life—doesn’t always have to be so serious.
